Using music files with your piano
The supported file type by your unit is E-SEQ file type (.FIL files). This information is presented on the Yamaha’s web site – this is their own and older file standard for music files used by Disklavier, Clavinova and PianoDisc models. Below, we will explain the standard way for creating a floppy disk for your unit. The method and functionality are absolutely the same when using our emulator.
The music files (E-SEQ files) on a Disklavier, PianoDisc and Clavinova disks have the extension .FIL. They are frequently identified with names like PIANO001.FIL. In addition to the music files, there is an index file on the disc. This contains a list of the active music files on the disc and pointers to their position on the disk. The index file is always called PIANODIR.FIL. This is very important file and it is different for every floppy disk and it will be created separately for each virtual disk.
In order to set up a disk to function with your unit, you must first convert the music files into E-SEQ format , if they are MIDI SMF (.MID) files. Then you need to generate PIANODIR.FIL for every virtual disk. We are providing two third party Windows based softwares for both process. We cannot guarantee any result, because this software is not made by us.
If you have problem achieving the desired result from the videos below, you can always take advantage of our services by clicking HERE.
By using the emulator, you will be able to download ESEQ files (the file format that the unit initially supports) or MIDI files from the internet (for free or from the Yamaha store) and use them with the emulator. We also provide two websites for downloading MIDI/ESEQ files for free especially compatible with your equipment. More information about using ESEQ files and the third party software needed can be found in the first video below.
Your unit does not support MIDI (.MID) files initially – only ESEQ (.FIL). To use MIDI files they need to be converted via third party software. This process is mentioned in the second video below. Please check it.
After completing the procedures from the videos below, you will need to upload the files in the virtual disks presented in the USB flash drive. For more information how to upload the files, please click HERE.

Note: from the gear icon at the bottom of the video put the video to 1080p then to full screen – that way you will be able to see the process better. Also you can turn on subtitles by clicking the CC icon at the bottom of the video. The language can be adjusted by clicking the gear icon. Then click on Subtitles/CC. Important: Some piano controllers cannot handle long or lowercase file names. The file names should have at most 8 symbols, not counting the .FIL suffix, to be read by the piano correctly. Also please use uppercase letters for the file names, their .FIL suffixes and PIANODIR.FIL file too.
